COBirders,
I spent a some time in Lincoln county today in the snow early and then nice warm weather by midday. At Kinney Lake SWA I had a pair of COMMON REDPOLLs. As I pulled up they flew in and landed right in front of me. I did get some photos but they are very poor as they were through my windshield and I could not get focused on the birds. Other notables there were COMMON and RED-BREASTED MERGANSERs, 30+ LESSER SCAUP, a handful of CANVASBACK and then more of the expected species. There was also one hybrid MALLARDx????. I was trying to re-find the Redpolls and not as interested in the ducks. Also, right were the Redpolls were there were also seven bulls. They did not seem aggressive but needless to say I did not test them.
I will avoid listing all the other little odds and ends but I will include the days raptor list. It includes all the raptors I saw today in both Lincoln and El Paso counties.
Northern Harrier - 4
Red-tailed Hawk - 11 + 1 Harlan's
Ferruginous Hawk - 8
Rough-legged Hawk - 17!
Golden Eagle - 5
American Kestrel - 6
Merlin - 4
Prairie Falcon - 1
Not quite raptors:
Northern Shrike - 8
Loggerhead Shrike - 1
