A beautiful, calm, clear, quiet morning, and initially a lot of bird movement at Clear Spring Ranch this morning. After about 8:30, activity dropped off considerably, except for the emphatically singing Yellow Warblers, Com Yellowthroats, and Red-winged Blackbirds.
16 birds banded today. FOS MacGillivray's Warbler (SYm), FOS W Wood-pewee (ASY), FOS Blue Grosbeak (ASYf), more male chats, catbirds, and Brown Thrashers, and the beginnings of female Orange-crowned and Yellow Warblers starting to show up.
Additionally, Susan Craig asked me to pass on that she and some other shrike banders saw a Mississippi Kite over Fountain yesterday, (H 85 and Main) with good, long binocular views as it circled low over town, before disappearing into the cottonwoods.
Happy Migration,
Steve Brown
