Highlights of bird banding at CBR since my last post:
A Northern Parula banded on Sat. 5/13 - only the second banded in the history of the station. Also on the same day, an American Redstart, a gorgeous adult male Blue Grosbeak, and seven feisty Bullock's Orioles.
The second Veery of the season on Fri., 5/12. Also the first two Black-headed Grosbeaks of the season, as well as the first Western Kingbirds, two rival males caught side-by-side in the same net.
An Ovenbird on Tues. 5/9. This species is still being seen and heard singing at the station as of today, Sun. 5/14.
An Eastern Phoebe on Sun. 5/7 that had been singing at the station for a few weeks prior. Also captured that day were a Say's Phoebe, the first of two Ash-throated Flycatchers, the first Plumbeous Vireo, and a lovely male Eastern Bluebird.
A striking adult male Magnolia Warbler captured on Fri. 5/5, found in the grove by John Drummond before hitting a net and getting some silver bling.
A young male Sharp-shinned Hawk captured on Thurs. 5/4. A second was caught on Wed., 5/10.
While birding but not banding at the station this morning, I found a male Black-throated Blue Warbler, seen soon after by Bill Maynard, and by others later in the day.
