[cobirds] Northern Goshawks, Ken Caryl Valley, Jefferson

Yesterday I spotted all three of our Accipiters while doing New Year's birding in the Ken Caryl Valley, with a highlight of an adult Northern Goshawk at Massey Draw just below the forested slopes.

Early this morning an immature Northern Goshawk flew into my yard, preceded by panic and mayhem from the other birds. It dashed after a magpie and pursued it through the tight branches in the crown of a pine, but lost the hunt. It perched in a cottonwood nearby, and for a time all surrounding bird life was as if there was none. The hawk has moved on, but the silence following its presence still hold's sway even 40 minutes later.
