[cobirds] Rosy-Finches Snowmass ski area, Pitkin County

Hi all

It was a pleasure to give a free birding talk at Snowmass today – at the top of Sam’s Knob.  The weather was very pleasant, folks were interested, and there were many birds at the birdfeeder there.

Rosy-Finches – 200 or so – with good representation from Gray-crowned (both forms), and Brown-capped, plus at least one Black.

Pine Grosbeak 4 – one adult  male

Plus... several Mountain Chickadees, a Black-capped Chickadee, and a Red-breasted Nuthatch or two.

All the above at very close range!

Today I did not search for White-tailed Ptarmigans afterwards.

I will likely repeat this every Thursday at 11am the next four weeks, until 18th February. After that I will be returning to Ladakh “In Search of Snow Leopards” for the third year running

If you are interested (in either) please email me privately.

Note that to access Sam’s Knob at Snowmass you either need to walk uphill, or a lift ticket to ride the chair

Back home the White-throated Sparrow continues to visit our backyard. Email if you would like to schedule a visit

Best wishes
