On behalf of Siskadee I am forwarding to this group the  <<new for 2016 >>  directions and viewing protocol for the only public viewable Gunnison Sage-Grouse lek - at Waunita

There are TWO very significant changes for 2016

 

·         Gunnison County now prohibits parking along the side of the county road (CR 887) adjacent to the watchable wildlife site.  The county sheriff's office has agreed to patrol the site and enforce the no parking policy

·         To minimize human disturbance to the grouse, the public viewing site will be CLOSED on April 4, 5, 18, 23, 26, 27, and May 5, 6, 10, 11.

 

And, as always

 

·         Arrive at the Waunita Watchable Wildlife site at least 1 hour before sunrise. You should leave Gunnison at least 1 hour 45 minutes before sunrise

·         Remain in your vehicle with the engine off until AFTER all the birds have flown off

·         Colorado Parks and Wildlife owns and manages the viewing site. Protocols are enforced by them.  Any person deviating from these protocols is suspect to a wildlife violation and fine.
