Larry, on a very foggy May 26 night in the mid to late 1970s, I lived in Denver at 200 South Cherry, in the Hilltop neighborhood. I heard a poorwill which I then saw sitting (and calling) on the roof across the street (north) from my house. I would have to look up the exact year.

Last night just before dark I heard the unmistakable call of a Common
Poorwill for a few minutes at my home in SE Ft. Collins. It was so close
and loud, we first heard it inside the house! Although I've
seen/photographed them here before, this was the first time I've heard
one calling out of its normal breeding range - a real treat. Here is a
