[cobirds] RMBO Chatfield Banding Report, 5/31/15

The weather cooperated for one final pleasant day of banding at Chatfield.  We finished the season with 26 new birds and an interesting range of species:

Red-shafted Flicker 1
House Wren 2
Swainson's Thrush 1
Gray Catbird 3
Cedar Waxwing 6
Yellow Warbler 6
Common Yellowthroat 1
Yellow-breasted Chat 2
Lincoln's Sparrow 1
Lazuli Bunting 1
Bullock's Oriole 2

For the season, we banded 542 birds, plus we had 46 returns (birds banded in prior years at this station) for a total of 588 birds of 49 species.  That is slightly better than our average for the 11 years we have been at this location, and not bad considering the number of days we were rained out completely plus the number of cold dreary days when numbers were very low. The last 10 days were perfect for banding, and we all - staff, volunteers, students, visitors, birds - had a chance to enjoy some lovely spring weather.

For fall, we will as usual be at Barr Lake.  Our plan will be to open the last weekend on August, but that of course will depend on water levels.......  Check the RMBO website (www.rmbo.org) for details.
