Hello, All!
-- I am writing to announce that I will be looking for part-time and full-time research assistants again in 2015. For those of you who are not familiar with my project, I search for and monitor the nests of ground-nesting birds (mostly McCown's Longspur, Horned Lark, and Lark Bunting) at the Central Plains Experimental Range near Nunn, CO. As those who helped me out last year can attest, this project is labor intensive. It requires walking 5-7 miles per day, dragging cumbersome ropes, and dealing with sometimes intense heat. My study area has A LOT of prickly pear cacti and rattlesnakes, so participation is not for the faint of heart. The reward is getting to work in an area that is closed to the general public, getting up-close and personal with charismatic grassland birds, and (if you commit to helping full-time) receiving training and a possible per diem.
I am interested in help of any duration and frequency, but I am especially in need of full-time undergraduate (or recent graduate) assistants. I will provide on-site lodging to student assistants who live far away and commit to the full field season. Rope-dragging takes place Mon-Fri from about 8AM-3PM. I am also looking for a full-time crew leader who can supervise a second crew (which I didn't have last year) and work for a couple of extra hours each day to help with nest checks. Please contact me if you would like more information about the project. Also please pass this message on if you know of someone who is not a cobirds subscriber and who might like to participate.
Have a good one!
