[cobirds] Cortez (Montezuma) Area Today

Greetings All

Sorry, operating on very little sleep for several days in a row.
Highlights from today
Yellowjacket Canyon: Lucy's Warbler, Summer Tanager (and usual stuff for there such as Gray Vireo)
Lower McElmo Canyon: Scott's Oriole a couple miles to e. of turnoff for Yellowjacket feeding in tamarisk with Bullock's. Imm male.
Denny Pond (in Cortez): Least Bittern (found by Nick Moore). Heard giving coo-coo-coo-coo call three times in about 1 minute, then youngsters with fishing rods arrived
Totten Reservoir: Common Loon, 3 Lesser Nighthawks (2 females, one male) at dusk. Position Self on dike on w. side. Also, female Mexican Duck with young.

Weird Stuff.
Northern Pygmy-Owl (young bird with adult?) in Lower McElmo Canyon. Western Tanager singing persistently in Yellowjacket Canyon. And for low stuff up high, Song Sparrow and Spotted Towhee on territory at 10,000 feet.

Good Birding
