Hi all
Last two evenings we've had two very impressive storm cells pass through Nunn.
The first one (https://www.flickr.com/photos/31216446@N06/sets/72157644914899960/), Sunday evening, produced a HUGE swath of 1.5 - 2 inch hail field about 3 miles north of us (see last three photos from front door) and a tornado about an hour later.
Last night a second storm (https://www.flickr.com/photos/31216446@N06/sets/72157645343466555/) blew through Nunn--this one scarier looking than Sunday's--we hopped in car went to Nunn's Point of Interest parking lot to "be on the ready (to escape)" and met up with about 7 other vehicles watching some chasing the storm--two storm-chasing vans loaded with chasers/gear zoomed by our house before we left it. At the Point of Interest we talked with Univ of Colorado-Denver bird researchers who fled CPER because of storm.
It was sad to hear that she (they) monitors about 137 Lark Bunting nests and she said all but about 30 were destroyed by hail/weather. I'm sure many other grassland species also suffered as well. As she stated to us "we lost a generation of Lark Buntings" ... :-(
We are in the severe weather zone again today.
Thanks Gary Lefko, Nunn
