[cobirds] Park and Jefferson Counties June 21-22

June 21

I explored some areas in the northwest corner of Park County along and around Deer Creek (...not that Deer Creek, the other one - along County Road 43). I had Band-tailed Pigeons at three places: two together along Saddlestring Road, and two singles at well-separated spots along Pike NF Road 101. One was calling. Willow Flycatchers were at three spots along Deer Creek (all silent when I was with them). A Lewis's Woodpecker flew up valley over Conestoga Road. Also 4 Type 2 Red Crossbills at Conestoga Road.

Later I traveled Jefferson County Road 126 (Pine Valley Road) and adjacent Ourey Road and vicinity in Jeffco. A Band-tailed Pigeon flew into a backyard feeding station at Pine Grove. Stopping briefly at Reynold's Ranch Open Space I heard an Ovenbird singing near the creek downstream of the parking lot. Driving with stops in the Deer Creek Canyon (yes, that Deer Creek) down High Grade Road, South Deer Creek Road and West Deer Creek Canyon Road I heard 4, 1 and 3 singing Ovenbirds respectively (8 total).

June 22

Following a big wind and a nice thunderstorm at Ken Caryl Valley this afternoon, the skies mostly cleared and winds calmed, and as I was in my front yard I watched a Lewis's Woodpecker fly over, heading north!
