A flock of American white pelicans has been floating & fishing at Teller Lake (just north of Arapahoe) since November 6 when I counted 45. By Nov. 10 there were 74. They are still there this morning though I didn't go close enough to count. According to Holt's Birds of Colorado, most pelicans leave by mid-October, so it seems late for such a big flock to be here. I also saw about 30 fly over Golden Ponds a few days ago.
There are often bald eagles near Teller Lake. A few days ago I watched a sub-adult fly over carrying a fish. Then another subadult flew out, harassing the first, making it drop the fish into the lake. Two adults were active yesterday.
