Hi cobirders. There was a juvenile Cooper's Hawk in the Russian
Olive now mostly leafless. It sat there for a while no birds near it
but quite a few ignoring it
further away. Soon it gave up and flew to the next yard south.
Mostly brown colored in flight with long tail.
Later in the afternoon I went down to Bear Creek Lake Park. Took the
rollater from park lot to the gate where several birders were waiting
to see and get pictures.
After an hour watching House Finches, song sparrows, American Tree
Sparrows and a BC Chickadee come and go. The Brambling put in a
brief appearance and
I got a good quick look. Five minutes later it came down on the far
right corner of the wood bridge and went along the edge giving all of
us waiting great looks.
My Collins British guide says the male takes on a look like the
female in the winter. I thought the black and the orange were still
strong. I think it is a male.
Great to see many of my birding friends of the past again. It was
my second Brambling seen in Colorado and soon after the first one I
went to England for 3 weeks
and saw several . A great year bird for sure!
