This morning while walking the south shore of the marsh, I flushed a Least Bittern from the cattails along the shore. It flew to the center of the marsh and disappeared. This is the first time I've seen a Least Bittern here this year. It was at the same location where the LEBIs were seen last summer.
I found 35 species at Holcim today including two Says Phoebes, two Black Phoebes and three Eastern Phoebes.
The Holcim Wetlands is south of Penrose on SR 120, about 1 mile west of the Holcim cement plant. Parking and trails provided.
