[cobirds] Calliope buzz

COBirders,

As you enjoy migrating hummers, you might see if this “field mark” works for you.

I’ve never seen in book or heard anyone describe the distinctive buzz of the male Calliope Hummingbird.  It may be common knowledge and I missed this. I find it a good field mark for a little hummer speck moving in the region of feeder (sometimes they don’t dart right up, but move around), or moving through mid-level trees.  The buzz is subtle, and sounds like a fly doing battle to get through a glass window.

The Black-chinned is also small, but when zipping by, gives a very different, soft “whirrrr”  (you add Doppler).  Broad-tailed and Rufous, of course, very different still.
