[cobirds] Bird Conservancy of the Rockies - Barr Banding Report, 9/23/23

Didn't think it would get worse than yesterday (3 birds banded), but it did.  Grand total of 1 new bird, a Song Sparrow, only the second caught this season when we normally would have 25-35 of this resident species by now.

Banding was hampered today by wind; the majority of the nets were closed by mid-morning and we ended the day a bit early.

We caught 3 other birds that had been previously banded, all while the first of our two visitor groups was at the station.  My hat is off to the second group of visitors, who were enthusiastic about the tour of the nets and the info we shared without seeing a single bird in the hand!

If you would like to visit our station, we have one-hour slots (up to 15 visitors at a time) from 7:30-8:30 most weekday mornings (Tues-Fri, we are closed on Mon) and 8, 9 , and 10 a.m. one-hour time slots on the weekends.  Still plenty of opportunities to visit next week.  Click here to make a reservation.
