[cobirds] Bird Conservancy of the Rockies - Pineridge Natural Area Banding Report 9/7-9

We had a fun time with our first full week of banding at PNA! Weather was lovely, if a bit warm, prompting some early closures. 9/9 was also breezy to start, but it died down as the day went on. 9/7 was our best day so far, with 24 birds! (The majority were Wilson's Warblers, but the volume is still exciting.) We're at 15 species for this site this season, and six new species that weren't captured in the spring.

This report is for 9/7 through 9/9.

New bands:
Gray Catbird - 1
Swainson's Thrush - 1
American Robin - 2
MacGillivray's Warbler - 1
Wilson's Warbler - 33
Song Sparrow - 3
Spotted Towhee - 2
American Goldfinch - 2

Recaptures:
Black-capped Chickadee - 1 (banded in the spring)
Gray Catbird - 2 (banded in the spring)
Wilson's Warbler - 2 (banded this fall)

This banding station will be operating Tuesday through Saturday, weather and trail closures permitting, from sunrise until about 12:30 PM. Next week we are opening at 6:20 and we may see some trail closures due to rainy forecasts; please be respectful of all natural area closures. Peak hours for seeing birds in hand aren't yet established, but so far we have moderately steady activity from about 7 to 9 and another small push at around 10:30. Park at the Maxwell Natural Area parking lot and walk south along the trail towards Dixon Reservoir, and you will see our table and awning on the little hillside to the left of the main trail. Consider signing up for your visit at this link;  registration is free and helps us plan ahead for visitor numbers. I hope to see you there!
