On Sunday, I went off to Kiowa County and found significant open water at Lower and Upper Queens as well as Neenoshe and Neegronda. The latter two had most of the birds, but the most interesting birds by far were on Upper Queens: Two male and one female Barrow's Goldeneye. Not seen since, alas (I couldn't refind them 3 hours later)
In Weld, Windsor Lake has a nice bit of open water, best viewed from south side in AM and from west side in PM, though I had far more birds present in morning (including 2 Thayer's Gulls)
Windsor Reservoir has substantial amount of open water on the south side. Nothing rare, unless you like studying hybrid geese :o)
Woods Lake also has much open water. In PM (or a cloudy AM), I'd go up the road along the lake's west side, find a safe place to park, and then walk down the road until you find an opening to survey the lake. 1 Thayer's and 1 LBB Gull were the best birds there today, but a reasonable number of gulls and lotsa ducks
Drake's Lake has some open water, but gulls seemed unwilling to land with the bevy of eagles on the ice
Black Hollow is still an ice cube
Union has a sliver of water opening -- mostly Mallards.
And the ponds at Firestone have many Aythya. Nothing rare but potential is there.
