I found this red-tailed hawk chowing down on a garter snake this afternoon by the Fort Lyon Storage Canal northeast of Rocky Ford this afternoon. It is the first snake I have seen in January in Colorado. To provide some context, ten feet below the hawk in the bottom of the canal is an ice-covered pool of water.
