I went to Rigden Reservoir at the eastern end of Horsetooth Avenue this morning looking for a Sabine's Gull (found one) but didn't know anything about a Black-throated Green Warbler. I first heard and then saw a first-fall female Black-throated Green Warbler just east of the bridge near the parking lot. Must be the same bird mentioned by Derek, I think first observed by Mike and Danny from Bird Conservancy of the Rockies who were viewing the Sabine's Gull at the west end of the res when I went to tell them about the warbler (they already knew).
Wilson's Warbler (1)
Common Yellowthroat (2)
Lots of wild sunflower eaters, as Derek mentioned: American Goldfinches, House Finches, Pine Siskin (just a few), Red-winged Blackbirds
Virginia Rail (heard in the wetland between the south edge of the res and the road)
Marsh Wren (ditto)
Savannah and Song Sparrow
Greater Yellowlegs (1)
Snowy Egret (4) (flew over to somewhere with water ne of the res, maybe the area mentioned by Derek)
Sharp-shinned Hawk (1 imm)
Mourning Dove (1)
Horned Larks (10 scared off by the accipiter)
Barn Swallow (hundreds, surprising number for the date)
Cliff Swallow (at least 1, also seen by Mike and Danny)
Violet-green Swallow (at least one juv or dull female, also seen by Mike and Danny)
Went to Grandview Cemetery afterwards and had Hammond's Flycatcher, at least 4 Pygmy Nuthatch (one of which caught and rejected a Painted Lady), a lingering Western Wood-Pewee and lone Turkey Vulture. The latter was probably looking in vain for the Broncos, who lost a game they could have won, in hot Buffalo, NY.
