After standing in one place for nearly two hours, I confirmed 2 buffies foraging together on a high and dry area between two draining low spots, more or less at the south end of the drying lake. I tallied 16 species of shorebird incl Black-bellied Plover, pectoral, stilt sandpipers, sanderlings in all plumages except full breeding, Wilson's and red-necked phals, and 1056 killdeer (plus or minus a few, and yes I counted). Also present were a few black and common terns and a crowd favorite Sabine's gull came by a couple times.
The woods below the dam in Logan co were fairly birdy. Lots of Audubon's yellow rumps and a smattering of more expected warblers. Several Virginia rails were sounding off on their own and a sora came out to watch me for a few minutes for no apparent reason.
I think I managed a couple identifiable photos of the buff-breasted sandpipers but the distance was great, lighting tough, and I was fairly inept with the camera in general today. Photos in a couple days as there are hundreds to sort through.
