I briefly checked the north end of the chigger invested Lamar
Community College grove, Prowers County, and saw the usual Northern
Cardinals (at least two), and an American Redstart.
Then I went to Melody Tempel Grove, in NE Bent County and there was a
nice flock of birds in there, on the west side of Road 35. two Barn
Owls, a Least Flycatcher, two Great Crested Flycatchers, two Cassin's
Vireos, a very bright Blue-headed Vireo, two Warbling Vireos, a
Red-eyed Vireo, a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, a Ruby-crowned Kinglet, two
Ovenbirds, an American Redstart, and a Townsend's Warbler.
I found one flock of birds at Hasty Campground in Bent County, which
included two American Redstarts and a Red-eyed Vireo.
At Van's Grove in Bent County, a female Black-chinned Hummingbird was
the best thing (though not too exciting since they breed there).
A pretty fun morning in SE Colorado on a cooler day, only in the 70s
out there today. I had a good feeling the cold front was going to
bring in some fun birds today to SE Colorado and it did. I wish I had
more time to check other groves of trees today, as I'm sure there were
birds at most of them.
