[cobirds] DFO Joder Ranch field trip, Boulder County

Nine DFO members and one guest birded the Joder Ranch area this morning as part of Denver Field Ornithologists' September Big Month. Of 32 species seen, 13 were new for the Big Month. The two-mile trail through varied foothills habitat remains undergirded, and this morning's trip added the first September eBird list for the hot spot.

The morning began with a puzzling eagle. The bird appeared white-headed in the glare of morning sunlight, but had no white in the tail. Piming Kuo's photo confirmed it was an adults Golden Eagle.

Steller's and Blue Jays along with Woodhouse's Scrub-Jays along with Black-billed Magpies provided varied corvid encounters.

Two Gray Catbirds were vocal and offered fleeting glimpses.

A soaring Ferruginous Hawk was a surprise and offered nice looks.

A circling Sharp-shinned Hawk offered an exercise shushing out accipiter fine points.

A link to the eBird list for the trip can be found on the DFO website under Past Trip Reports.
