[cobirds] Pygmy Nuthatch & Calliope Hummers, in yd., Jefferson County

Hi all,

Yesterday I was sitting outside and heard Pygmy Nuthatch in my yard[it sounded like around 5-7, and I saw 2 in the Pines]. They were in the yard today also. I had them in the yard before, but that was in mid fall. A nice surprise.

Finally as of 2, days ago, Calliope Hummingbirds have arrived in my yard [latter arrival date than in years past]. There are 3-4 as of today, [adult and im females]. Along with the Calliope are continuing adult male and adult female Rufous.

Now that there are many MORE migrating hummers  the ad. m. Rufous can no longer control the yard. Because of this you can actually see and identify the different Hummingbrds which are here. A couple have taken bird baths. All 4 species of hummers can be in the yard at the same time, but the Black-chinned is not as common.

This summer is the latest EVER I have had ad. m. and f.  Rufous. Usually the adults leave my area by around August 4-5.

Come on over if you want. Chairs are in the front and back.  email me if you might come.  Yes, the last 2 days have been active. I'm hoping for a midge hatch for the birds.

Happpy  Birding !
