[cobirds] "Buteos in Bad Light: Come to the Dark Side!" Raptor ID Class 9/17/17 Adams Co (Brighton)

Dear COBIRDERS:

The Raptor Education Foundation (REF) is proud to present a brand-new raptor ID class, "Buteos in Bad Light: Come to the Dark Side!" at our facility in Brighton on September 17, 2017, from 9:45 AM to 12:15 PM. This class is designed for the intermediate-and-above raptor watcher and will focus solely on the five buteo species seen in our state. We're going to learn the secrets to ID-ing a hawk with only one view, on a cloudy day, and delve into the secrets of determining the differences between all those dark-morph buteos. If you've ever wanted to know how to tell the difference between a dark-morph red-tailed hawk and a Harlan's, then this is the class for you!

Several of REF's live raptors will be featured, coupled with the combined skill and experience of Colorado Parks & Wildlife Raptor Monitor Karen Metz and Anne Price, REF's Curator of Raptors. The class will be held at our facility in Brighton on Sunday, September 17, with a tour of our exterior mews to conclude the session. Check in time is 9:30 AM, and the lecture portion (indoors) runs from 9:45 AM to 12:15 Noon, with the mews tour afterwards. Space is limited to 20 people, by advance reservation only. The fee per person is $50. Morning refreshments will be provided.
