Birders,
A small group of us were able to locate both McCown's and Lapland Longspurs south of Arriba (McCown's) and south of Genoa (Lapland) yesterday. My eBird checklist from yesterday listed the location as the Arriba Rest Area, but that was inaccurate, it was just the place we started. It took a lot of driving the dirt roads to find them, and it appears that the numbers are lower than over the past few weeks when counts were higher. Checklists have been edited to reflect more accurate locations.
There were hundreds of Horned Larks, mostly in pairs or 3's or singly, and what we found was that until we saw large flocks of birds, we saw no Longspurs. It was a long drive, but worth it! No Chestnut-collared Longspurs were seen by our group. Little else was seen.
Good birding,
