[cobirds] Pueblo New Year Birding Fest

Greetings
This morning, Cathy Sheeter and I set forth for Pueblo to start our 2013 birding. So did much of the rest of the Colorado Birding community. At Pueblo City Park, we bumped into Lisa Edwards, Mark Peterson, and Dan Maynard. We split the park in two: they had a YB SAPSUCKER in the NE corner of the park whilst we had the PINE WARBLER along the n edge of the zoo.

We then bumped into Brandon Percival and Paul Hurtado, but could not re-find those goodies.

Off to Pueblo Reservoir, where we relocated Paul Hurtado and Brandon Percival plus found ourselves a Mark Miller in morning, and then in afternoon, a host of celebrities including the Mark Peterson Trio, Brandon Percival, Paul (thrice in a day) Hurtado, John Drummond, Joey Kellner, Kathy Dunning, and several others whose name i should've either known or remembered.

During the late morning, Brandon kindly picked out both the PACIFIC and RT LOONS sleeping among hundreds of Western Grebes at the N Marina, where the resident GBB GULL remained in residence. In weeds along the w edge of the Juniper Breaks area, we had 2 COMMON REDPOLLS with several goldfinches. At the S Marina, there was a GBB GULL, presumably the resident N Marina bird out for a cruise. And just e of there was a solitary BONAPARTE'S GULL. Not that much was solitary on the reservoir, with over a thousand Common Goldeneye, Eared Grebes, and Common Mergansers each. Near the s marina a quick raptor show brought a Prairie Merlin, Golden Eagle, and Ferrug Hawk past us in rapid succession

So, the afternoon gull party produced
1st cycle GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL
apparent GBB X HERRING GULL hybrid (2nd year)
Adult MEW GULL
1st cycle GLAUCOUS GULL
10 or so LBB GULLS
10 or so THAYER'S GULLS
5 or so California Gulls
Hundreds of Herring Gulls and over a thousand RB Gulls

And the day was not too cold and nearly windless
