Rare, out of place and out of season species include:

 

EURASIAN WIGEON (Larimer)

Dunlin (Kiowa)

Red-throated Loon (Adams)

NEOTROPIC CORMORANT (Adams)

Red-bellied Woodpecker (*Pueblo)

Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (Larimer, *Yuma)

Winter Wren (Jefferson, Larimer)

Eastern Bluebird (Garfield)

Northern Mockingbird (Larimer)

Chestnut-collared Longspur (Clear Creek)

Field Sparrow (El Paso)

Fox Sparrow (red) (Jefferson)

Northern Cardinal (Larimer)

 

Gull species: Several winter/spring gulls are being seen, primarily in Pueblo, Larimer, Arapahoe, Kiowa and Adams Counties, e.g., Iceland (Thayer’s), Glaucous, Bonaparte’s, California, Ring-billed, Herring, Lesser Black-backed, and Great Black-backed Gull.

ADAMS COUNTY:

—On March 27 a NEOTROPIC CORMORANT was reported at McKay Road ponds, directly east of the junction of McKay Rd in Thornton .  First reported on March 20 by Greg Levandoski.

—On March 31 a Red-throated Loon was reported on the pond across the street from Elaine T Valente Open Space on 104th.  First reported March 15 by Peter Ruprecht.

 

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY:

---On March 31, an out of range female Chestnut-collared Longspur was reported on Guanella Pass by Tyler Stewart.

 

EL PASO COUNTY:

—On March 31 the overwintering Field Sparrow continues at Red Rock Canyon Open Space.

 

GARFIELD COUNTY:

—On March 28 a Eastern Bluebird was reported at CR 320 (SW of the Beaver Water Treatment Plant)  First reported on March 24 by Benjamin Althouse.

 

JEFFERSON COUNTY:

---On March 31 the overwintering Winter Wren at Bear Creek Greenbelt continues, it has been present since December 2018.

---On March 31 a Fox Sparrow (red) was reported at Waterton Canyon, near the beginning of the main trail by Bez Bezuidenhout.

 

KIOWA COUNTY:

--- On March 31 three Dunlins was reported at Neenoshee Reservoir (SE corner). First reported on March 24 by David Dowell.

 

LARIMER COUNTY:

---On March 31 a male EURASIAN WIGEON was reported in the Cobb Lake unit of Wellington SWA (south pond) by Andy Bankert, later in same day reported in center pond by Nick Komar and others. Since the original report, the bird has been identified as far as the north lake of the unit.

---On March 31 an overwintering Winter Wren was reported at the Prospect Ponds area.  First reported November of 2018.

—On March 31 a Northern Mockingbird was reported at Boedecker Reservoir.  First reported by Nick Komar on March 23.

—On March 30 a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was reported at Grandview Cemetery  near the golf course parking lot.  Two Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers  - 1(m) and 1(f) were reported on March 8,about midway along the south edge of the cemetery that abuts the golf course, by John Shenot 

There has been a (f) Northern Cardinal visiting the feeders at the home of Steve Martin SW of Wellington since July. Email for current status and directions: falconridge AT cowisp.net. Last report - March 8.

 

PUEBLO COUNTY:

---On March 31 the overwintering Red-Bellied Woodpecker was again seen at Pueblo Nature Center. It has been present since November 2018.

 

YUMA COUNTY:

---On April 1 a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was reported at the Wray Fish Hatchery, foraging in the south portion of the line of pines near the office. First reported by Gregg Goodrich on March 23.
