[cobirds] Bird Conservancy Banding Report - Chatfield Station, 4/26/19

A pretty unusual morning, species wise.......

As we opened the 4 nets down by the river, we noted that the treetops were loaded with Yellow-rumped Warblers, and we lamented that we were likely to miss them, as we often do, because they were feeding so high up.  Well, a tiny percentage of them came down, and we were thrilled to catch 17 of them in a couple of nets over the course of the morning.   A mix of Myrtles and Audubons, with a couple of intergrades thrown in.

Other than that, we caught 8 other new birds, all House Wrens; 6 banded today and 2 banded last year.

So, our total new bird count was 25, total species was 2.  (We also recaught several of the Chickadees that we banded yesterday.)  Breaking the 25 down by subspecies, etc, we get:

House Wren, 6 new, 2 banded 2018
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Myrtle 6
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon 9
Yellow-rumped Warlber, Intergrade 2

We will be open daily, WEATHER PERMITTING, through May 31, except for May 9-11 and 27. We are opening nets at 6:30, and most days will have birds back at the station by 7:15. We aim to close by noon most days, earlier if it is very hot, very cold, or very windy. Registration is required for all weekend visitors; see the Denver Audubon website to sign up. Individuals may visit weekdays without registering before the school groups arrive, which is usually around 10 a.m.

Come visit!
