After helping with the Louviers section of the Douglas County CBC today, Doug Shoffner and I visited South Platte Reservoir for all the goodies there (no swans) and then walked down by the South Platte. About a 1/4 mile north of the C470 overpass, the spillway and the paved path roundabout, Doug found a blackbird working the east rocky shoreline and called us over. 4 of us got good looks (but unfortunately no photos) of a Rusty Blackbird that then flew across to the west bank. The area has lots of short willows too. It had pale eyes, a strong reddish tan supercillium, reddish brown streaks on the breast (but nowhere near as pronounced as a female red-winged (which has dark eyes.) Hopefully someone can get out there and refind it tomorrow.
Good birding in 2016,
