[cobirds] Red Phalarope, Cherry Creek State Park

Hey folks,

I am currently watching a juvenile Red Phalarope off of Pelican Point at Cherry Creek State Park.

All three phalarope species are present here, and if you look for this bird, look for a phalarope that looks much like Merlin's "nonbreeding adult" but with some buff color on the sides of its neck. Crucially, look for a bird with a slightly stouter bill and a pale base, foraging mostly with the Red-necked Phalaropes.

Finally, beware that with the storms last night, getting to the point closest to the shorebirds now requires some walking through waterlogged areas.
