[cobirds] Chico Basin Ranch Banding Report-August 24, 2026

The first fall banding day at Chico Basin Ranch. We were so busy we only had five nets up before we were busy and had to finish putting up the remaining five nets until we were finished banding for the day. Five warbler species , four species, and a total of 12 bird species for the day. Wilson's Warblers are back in full swing. Northerly winds helped Monarch butterflies to move in good numbers.

37 New Birds
Orange-crowned Warbler- 4
Yellow Warbler- 5
Townsend's Warbler- 1
Wilson's Warbler- 11
MacGillivray's Warbler- 2
Northern House Wren- 1
Lesser Goldfinch- 1
Western Wood-Pewee- 4
Willow Flycatcher- 2
Traill's Flycatcher- 2 (Alder or Willow- could not distinguish)
Western Flycatcher- 1
House Finch- 2

The banding station will be open tomorrow from sunrise until @11:30AM. If interested in birding the ranch, please register on the Aiken Audubon website www.aikenaudubon.com
A Badger was seen crossing the road, shortly before entering the ranch so be on the lookout. No need to drive fast on the ranch you never know what animals you might see!
