[cobirds] Chico Basin Ranch Banding Station Report- Bird Conservancy of the Rockies- August 31, 2026

It is the last day of August and we had a few early fall migrants still meandering through. An Oriole and Cassin's Kingbird were calling early this morning. Black- headed Grosbeaks, Canyon Towhee and Lincoln's Sparrow were the first of the season banded today. Many of the species we banded today, were not heard or seen. 

40 New Banded Birds

Wilson's Warbler- 8

MacGillivray's Warbler- 2

Orange-crowned Warbler- 3

Yellow Warbler- 1

Townsend's Warbler- 3

Dusky Flycatcher- 3

Western Wood-Pewee- 6

N. House Wren- 3

Lincoln's Sparrow- 1

Yellow-breasted Chat- 1

Western Tanager- 1

Canyon Towhee- 1

Black-headed Grosbeak - 2

Brown Thrasher- 2

Red-winged Blackbird- 3

2 Recaptures

Wilson's Warbler

Orange-crowned Warbler

1 Return- banded last spring as an adult male

N. House Wren- bird is at least 3 years old

The Banding Station will be open tomorrow through Saturday from sunrise until @11:30 AM. Please stop by and share your sightings.
