[cobirds] Pueblo CBC results 16 December

We held the Pueblo Christmas Bird Count, yesterday 16 December 2021.  17 counters were out yesterday (some from Pueblo and Pueblo West, as well as out of town help from other locations -- thank you all for helping!  We found 103 species on count day, plus two more for count week.  Missed Scaled Quail and American Pipit, that were seen Monday in the count circle.

We found quite a few species, that we have only had ten times now or less for the count.  A few waterbirds, that were unexpected, though the major lakes all had plenty of open water, which helped.  The weather was great, a bit chilly early for the parties who had walking areas, though there was practically no wind, so it was a pleasant day to count birds.  The wind storm on Wednesday, did bring trees down in the circle, though everyone was able to get around without any major issues.

Here are the highlights (please note some birds were seen on private property, that we only have access on count day each year).

Tundra Swan - 7th (time for the count)
Wild Turkey - 9th
Common Loon - 5th
Eared Grebe - 5th
Black-crowned Night-Heron - 7th
Sandhill Crane - 4th
Greater Roadrunner - 4th
Short-eared Owl -2nd
Chipping Sparrow - new for the count (a staked out bird)
Lincoln's Sparrow - 10th
Lesser Goldfinch - 10th

Other things of note: Greater White-fronted Goose, Ross's Goose, Greater Scaup, Double-crested Cormorant, Rough-legged Hawk (more than usual, then recent years), White-winged Dove, Say's Phoebe, Chihuahuan Raven, Bushtit, Mountain Bluebird, Lapland Longspur, Harris's Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, Common Grackle, Great-tailed Grackle.
