Was at Walden Ponds on MLK day and saw an unusual looking Gadwall. It had a very pronounced cinnamon/rufousy tint to the top of his head. Everything else looked "normal", size, shaped and other colors. For me, at least, it certainly stood out enough to take some pictures (below). Looked though Sibley and online and haven't seen anything called out for hybrids.
Anyone else seen this coloring before? Is it a hybrid, or just some random color variation?
