Re: [cobirds] Poorwills, Douglas county

With my interest piqued by Deb's post, my son and I went out to this area this evening. We hiked into the park trails that go down into the valley a bit. At around 8:20pm we were on Giddy Up trail and heard at least a dozen poorwills calling. I used my phones voice memo app to get a recording, which will probably require some clean up. After that, on tenderfoot trail we encountered two separate common poorwills sitting in the middle on the trail. Since our headlamp batteries were low/dead (of course!) we were using our phone lights and didn't see the birds until we were right on top of them. 

Other notable siting were a pair of coyotes, a fly-by of a great horned owl, and a giant black beetle.
