Varied Thrush (Boulder)

Snow Bunting (Kiowa)

Black Rosy-Finch (*Jefferson)

Several winter/very early spring gull species are being seen, primarily in Pueblo and Larimer Counties, e.g. Franklin's Gull, Mew Gull, Herring Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, and Iceland Gull (Thayer's).  For more information on these birds please check ebird.org 



ARAPAHOE COUNTY:

---On January 27 a (f) Black Scoter was reported at South Platte Reservoir. First reported on November 10 by James McCall.


BOULDER COUNTY:

---On January 26 a Varied Thrush was reported at Pleasant View Marsh and seen recently in neighborhood NW of park. First reported by Ernest Crvich January 23.


DENVER COUNTY:

---On January 27 (4) Rusty Blackbirds were reported at First Creek at DEN Open Space. (6) birds were first reported there on January 1.

---On January 26 a Winter Wren was reported at the Denver Zoo by Brooks Bennett.


EL PASO COUNTY:

—On January 28 a Field Sparrow was reported at Red Rock Canyon Open Space. First reported by Jim Merritt on December 19.


JEFFERSON COUNTY:

---On January 28 a (Red) Fox Sparrow continued at Red RocksTrading Post. First reported by Cheryl Teuton on Nov 30.

—On January 23 a White-winged Scoter was reported at Welton Reservoir; first reported by Eric DeFonso on January 20.

---On January 28 a Winter Wren was reported at Morrison Park.

---On January 23 a Winter Wren was reported at Ralston Creek by James McCall.

—On January 23 a Winter Wren was reported at Bear Creek Greenbelt. First reported by Chris Woods on December 13.

—On January 21 a Golden-Crowned Sparrow was reported in Morrison on 2nd Street. Visitors are required to stay on the road and not wander onto the private parking lot just south of the house.

---On January 19 through 28 a flock of Gray-crowned, Brown-capped and Black Rosy Finches was reported at the home of Kirsten WItherell, 19640 W 55th Pl, Golden. For permission to visit and details, please text her at (720) 372-0833.


KIOWA COUNTY:

---On January 27 a Snow Bunting was reported at Lower Queens Reservoir by Steve Mlodinow.


LA PLATA COUNTY:

---On January 27 a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker at Animas River—Huck Finn Pond. First reported by Ryan Votta December 2.


LARIMER COUNTY:

---On January 27 a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker at Grandview Cemetery. First reported by David Leatherman on January 8, just out on the golf course, east of a Porta Potty.

—On January 23 there was a GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL at Warren Lake, first reported by Josh Bruening.

—On January 28 a (f) Northern Cardinal was reported by Steve Martin at his home SW of Wellington. It has been visiting his feeders since July. Email for current status and directions: falconridge AT cowisp.net.  


 PUEBLO COUNTY:

—On January 27 a White-winged Scoter was reported at a pond at 29th Lane & South Rd. First reported by MaryLynne Ketcham on January 26.

—On January 27 a Carolina Wren was reported at the Arkansas River Trail, east of Pueblo Blvd. First reported January 3 by Brandon Percival.

—On January 27 a Trumpeter Swan was reported at Valco Ponds SWA and Nature and Raptor Center. First reported by Al Garner on Jan 15.

—On January 22 a Mew Gull was reported at Pueblo Reservoir. First reported by Kara Carrager and Brandon Percival January 19.

---Note, a Great Black-backed Gull is often reported at Pueblo Reservoir, where it has wintered for many years.



WELD COUNTY:

---On January 28 a Long-tailed Duck was seen at Windsor Lake. First reported by Nick Komar on January 27.

---On January 27 a (f) Long-tailed Duck continued at Milavec Reservoir. First reported by Steve Mlodinow on November 22.

—On January 26 a Glaucous Gull at Windsor Lake was reported by Ryan Graves.

---On January 27 a PINK-FOOTED GOOSE at Frederick Lake (Milavec Reservoir) & Recreation Area. First reported nearby by Steve Mlodinow on December 11. This would be a first state record if approved by the Colorado Bird Record Committee.
