[cobirds] Bird Conservancy Banding Report - Chatfield Station, 5/20/18

After 24+ hours of rain and drizzle, the birds were moving around this morning.  The skies were threatening when we arrived, so we opened slowly - a few nets at 6:30, finally got the last ones open by 10 when it was clear that the rain was done, at least for now.  Banded 24 new, plus caught 5 more banded in prior years, plus 13 (mostly Yellow Warblers) that had already visited our nets this year.  Here's the breakdown of the new plus first-time returns:

Western Wood-pewee 3
Least Flycatcher 1 new, 1 banded in 2017
Dusky Flycatcher 1
House Wren 1
Swainson's Thrush 4
Gray Catbird 2 new, 1 banded 2012
Yellow Warbler 2 new, 3 banded in 2017
Common Yellowthroat 1
Wilson's Warbler 1
Green-tailed Towhee 1
Song Sparrow 1
Lincoln's Sparrow 4
Lesser Goldfinch 2, 1 green-backed, 1 black-backed

Come visit! Station is open daily, weather permitting, through the end of
May, except for Memorial Day. We open nets about 6:30 and close around
noon. If you would like to visit on a weekend, you must pre-register - go
to the Audubon Society of Greater Denver website. Perhaps the best time for
birders to visit is early in the morning during the week - fewer people and
more birds! (School groups arrive each day between 10:00 and 10:30.)
