[cobirds] SE Colorado 5/25

After not seeing the Golden-crowned Warbler in Cheyenne County, Van Truan and I decided to bird in the 90+ degree heat in Kiowa, Bent, and Otero Counties in SE Colorado on the way back to Pueblo (returning to Pueblo at 7:30pm after leaving at 4:15am (long day!).

Migrant land bird passerines were pretty much non-existent.  A Swainson's Thrush here and there.  The only highlight really, were two Whimbrel at the south end of Neenoshe Reservoir in Kiowa County.  Also, single White-rumped Sandpipers at Neenoshe and John Martin Reservoir, a Long-billed Dowitcher at Neenoshe and a Sanderling at John Martin Reservoir.  A migrant Lincoln's Sparrow was at Melody Tempel Grove in Bent County, also single male Baltimore Orioles were at Neenoshe Reservoir and at Melody Tempel Grove.  A Yellow-billed Cuckoo was at Rocky Ford SWA in Otero County.  A few Dickcissel were singing along Bent County Road 35, south of Melody Tempel Grove.  A quick stop in Kit Carson, in Cheyenne County, produced a Barn Owl being chasing by kingbirds and grackles.
