DFO Field Trip:
The DFO Field Trip for Friday, December 1 will be Annual Barrow's Goldeneye Count to Silverthorne led by Paul Slingsby (paslingsby AT
comcast.net; 303-442-3728).
Meet at 00720 at the RTD Park-n-Ride located at Union Blvd and W 2nd Place. From US 6 go south to the second stoplight. Turn left and proceed toward the end of W 2nd Place. Look for the group at the SE corner of Park-n-Ride lot.
We will count Barrow's Goldeneyes and other birds at the Silverthorne water treatment plant and then drive to Holt Sulphur Springs (rosy-finches), Lake Granby, Shaow Mountain Lake, and Grand Lake. Spotting scopes, Binoculars, and 2-way radios will be useful. Dress for cold, windy weather. Insulated, wind-proof leg coverings and warm boots are recommended. Bring water and snacks; we'll find a warm place to buy lunch. Plan to be back at the meeting place by dark. Register online or contact leader.

Meet at parking strip on north side of Ferril Lake. Directions: Enter park from Colorado Blvd. Northbound turn left onto 22nd Ave past Museum of Nature & Science; southbound turns right onto 22nd at police station. Go past museum park until road curves toward zoo. Take immediate left at "to Pavilion bandstand" sign and go 300 yards down to corner with tall spruce trees, where lake comes into view. Park diagonally of left beneath spruces.
Dress for weather and bring water and snacks. Scopes welcome if waterfowl congregate in middle of Ferril Lake or behind Duck Lake island. Expect to walk up to 3 miles on level asphalt, concrete and cinder paths, and across lawns through park groves. Register online or contact leader.
