On December 7 around DIA the Snowy Owl, a Burrowing Owl, and a Great Horned Owl were seen. Short-eared Owls are also nearby. It is very late in the season for Burrowing Owls so I was skeptical but there is a photo on the CFO Facebook page of the Burrowing Owl. The Snowy Owl has been around DIA since at least November 21.
-- Please do NOT form large groups of cars and stay out of fields which are leased to farmers. Give the owls space.
It would be awesome of the owls stayed for the Barr Lake Christmas Bird Count which will be on January 3. Maybe someone could research and see if Snowy, Burrowing, Short-eared, and Great Horned have ever all been seen on the same Christmas count.
