[cobirds] Crook CBC

Hi All,
The Crook CBC posted it's second highest species total with 78 count day birds. There was heavy snow cover and some very deep drifts which made for some interesting sightings. Many birds were driven into wind blown fields or along roads. We found four species new to the count:  Sharp-tailed Grouse, Brown Thrasher, Lincoln's Sparrow (3) and Red Crossbill. We also had 85 Bobwhite and 125 Turkeys probably a result of the snow cover. Other notables were Swamp Sparrow, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Mourning Dove and Brown-headed Cowbird. To echo Bill Kaempfer's comments on Western Meadowlark we had 509! I suspect this was also a result of snow cover. Interesting to note we had no Black-capped Chickadees. They just have not recovered from the West Nile infections of several years ago. Thanks to all who participated and make this a fun count to do.
