Erie Reservoir, on the east side of 287 just north of the Safeway, has a patch of open water. There were a lot of canvasbacks swimming in it, along with ring necked ducks, lots of white cheeked geese of different flavors, and a number of gulls. As we were looking straight into the sunlight, it looked like one probable herring gull, and a lot of ring billed gulls, but it would be worth going there in the afternoon when the light is favorable. We didn't stay long enough to count, but it was a nice way to end a morning wintering raptor survey. The pheasants seen at the beginning of the survey at about 9:30 am (on the northwest corner of 119th Street and Arapahoe Road) were not there when we finished about 11.
