On Friday, I had a Northern Shrike along Trout Creek about 400 yards north of the Manitou Lake dam. I have found 1 or 2 of these birds along Trout Creek, north or south of Manitou Lake every winter for the past few years. Also had Red Crossbills and a Clark’s Nutcracker around the lake area; among the usual species. The Lake is 99% frozen over; and the lake itself (not the creek north and south of the lake) is a fee area ($6).
At my home feeder every day for the past month there are usually 60+ Cassin’s Finches, 20+ Evening Grosbeaks; along with the other expected fanfare.
