[cobirds] four-letter (a.k.a. "banding") codes [end of thread, for me]

COBirders,

  Thanks to Ted Floyd for directing us to the discussion about using four-letter codes for species names on birding list serves.  We had a brief discussion about this several years ago on this list serve (because I am of a “certain age” I don’t know now how many years ago that was).  I have a vague memory that it was suggested that codes are fine, when they are used >after< the poster has already used the AOU name for the particular species being treated.  I’m not aware that codes over the years have been much of a problem on COBirds.
