For the National Audubon Christmas Bird Counts that are on Sunday, 14 December, the count week period begins at midnight (3 days before and 3 days after count day). There may well be species around this year before count day, that aren't found on count day, since there appears to be some colder weather coming for Sunday. Make sure to keep track of bird species you see in count circles, during count week, in-case the birds aren't found on the count itself. It is good to check bodies of water, since those are some of the birds, that could move south. Please let the compilers know, if you are seeing things in their circles, before count day, especially the harder to find species.
Hopefully it will be a successful CBC season, here in Colorado. Hopefully the weather this Sunday, won't cause too many problems, since there are quite a few Christmas Bird Counts scheduled on that day. The other two big days for Christmas Bird Counts in Colorado, are Saturday, 20 December and Saturday, 3 January. There are quite a few CBCs on those two days as well. Hopefully everyone will be able to help with one or more Colorado Christmas Bird Counts this season.
If you photograph any of interest birds in a CBC Circle on count week or Count Day, please e-mail me the photo(s), that may be all I will need for documentation purposes, unless the species is a State Wide Review Species, then the observer will need to submit a record to the Colorado Birds Records Committee, and the observer can copy the documentation they submitted to the CBRC, and e-mail it to me.
