Susan Bonfield, Executive Director of the Environment for the Americas, will be the featured speaker at the Monday, November 25 meeting of Denver Field Ornithologists. She'll address the question, "What can an organization do to diversify its membership and bring the wonder of birds and nature to people who may look different from the stereotypical birder?" With Latinos and other minorities making up a growing part of the population, this is a critical challenge.  The meeting is in the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Ricketson Auditorium. Enter through the west door by 7:30 p.m. We must lock the door a little after that time.

DFO Field Trips:
The DFO Field Trip for Saturday, November 30 will be to Belmar Historic Park led by Karleen Schofield (303-936-8661).  Meet the leader at 0900 at the lake at 800 S. Wadsworth Blvd. at W Ohio Ave.  Turn west on Ohio Ave., and go 2 blocks straight ahead into Irongate parking lot and to lake.  Bring water and snacks.  Trip will finish about 1100.  Indoor restrooms will be available at 1000 at the library and the visitor center.  This trip is especially good for the novice birder and new members.

The DFO Field Trip for Sunday, December 1 will be the RMBO Annual Barrow's Goldeneye Count to Longmont area Lakes led by Chuck Hundertmark (303-604-0531).  Meet the leader at 0800 in the parking lot of Jim Hamm Nature Area, Longmont.  From the Denver area, take I-25 north to Exit 240.  Drive west on Hwy 119 to County Line Road.  Head north on County line Road and look for the nature area on the left just past 17th Ave.  Will check Union Reservoir and McIntosh Lake for Barrow's Goldeneyes and other ealry winter waterfowl.  May check other area lakes as time allows.  Primarily a driving trip.  A long half day.  Spotting scopes will be useful.  Call or email the leader in advance.  email is chundertmark8 AT gmail.com
