I need to explain that the birds are nesting in the attic of an old barn that is on private property, to which I do not have access. The City of Longmont's raptor expert, Jim Krick, is aware of these birds now and he'll be including them in the city's raptor monitoring. My guess is that there is little to no access to even see the nest, unless the owner has an attic door in the barn.
However, the Meadow Mountain subdivision is directly east of this farm and there is an open space and sidewalk that runs along the farm's eastern boundary. If you want to see/hear these guys, I would recommend parking on Clover Basin Drive, just west of N. 75th (Clover Basin becomes Pike Road west of 75th), and come into our open space to the north. The entrance is on the west side of the culvert and the farm where the owls are is directly ahead. We even have a few benches out there, where you can sit and just listen to the chicks squawk at Mom! Recommended time to see them would be around 8:30 or 9, but even once it's dark, you can sit out there and listen to their vocalizations.
(Nathan, do you need to record Barnies???)
