[cobirds] Calliope Hummingbird - Douglas

This morning we picked out an active Calliope Hummingbird at one of the feeders by Rhonda Lancaster's home. She sees loads of Broad-taileds; she hears the Rufous she reported last week but hasn't seen it since.

We hiked up a canyon on her ranch and Urling found two Broad-tailed nests, with two more probably nearby. They had at least an inch of rain yesterday; one of the nests had tilted and the one baby sat in a puddle of water. Good tight nest.

One theory posits that hummingbirds nest in loose colonies; these two (or four) nests lie within about a 150 yard-long section in a gully at the bottom of a conifer hillside.
